About me
Saturday, 7 February 2009
My name is Gabi Huiber and I am an economist in private practice. I live in Durham, NC. I went to Clemson for graduate school. My dissertation (PhD, 2003, applied economics) was on using experimental evidence for measuring the value of a brand. My main finding was that UPS did the right thing when, after it acquired Mail Boxes, Etc., it decided to change its name to The UPS Store. I had a very unique data set, can you tell?
I used to work in, then manage the Economic Analysis Group at the UPS headquarters in Atlanta, an in-house applied econometrics shop in charge of estimating marginal costs in the various operations, from residential delivery to international air cargo. In addition, we did ad-hoc things like modeling the risk of on-the-job injuries for UPS drivers, or the job turnover of the package sorters. Then I worked briefly for RTI Health Solutions, a subsidiary of RTI International. My current project is a collaboration with Mather Economics, LLC of Atlanta. We help daily newspapers optimize their subscription fee structure and subscriber retention patterns.
I deploy clear, robust, and expandable Stata code for solving problems that have econometric solutions. They can be found in product pricing, risk management, quantitative marketing or clinical research. If you already use Stata and need occasional help, let's talk. If you use some other data analysis software and are considering alternatives, take a look at Stata and then let's talk. I am not a reseller and I have no association with StataCorp. But if you decide to try Stata, I can help you put that investment to productive use.
